Gender affirming care not up for debate

Life saving gender affirming healthcare is once again under attack, with the South Australian Parliament set to vote on a nation-first inquiry into gender affirming care tomorrow.

The inquiry proposed by Independent MLC Frank Pangallo serves to politicise the safe, high-quality and evidence-based care currently provided by health and medical experts.

If passed, the inquiry will provide a platform to amplify dangerous and false narratives regarding the impacts of gender affirming care.

We thank South Australian Labor, The Greens SA and Hon Michelle Lensink MLC who have already committed to voting down this inquiry.

Decisions about gender affirming care are deeply personal and must be made by the patients and expert health professionals, not by public and political debate.

Trans and gender diverse young people experience significantly higher rates of suicidality and politicising their care only serves to cause further harm to an already vulnerable group.

We’ve already met with the Hon Frank Pangallo MLC, spoken with media, and released a joint statement with health professionals, human rights experts and parents to call out the dangers of this inquiry.

Will you help us call on South Australian MLCs to vote down the inquiry into gender affirming care?

For more info check out our joint statement with Equality Australia, AusPATH, Parents of Gender Diverse Children, Transcend Australia and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia on the dangers of this inquiry.
