Parliament of South Australia's Social Development Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the potential for a Human Rights Act for South Australia.
SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance prepared a submission supporing a Human Rights Act in South Australia on the basis that it may protect the rights of LGBTIQA+ South Australians and address some of the inequalities we face in relation on the basis of our sexuality and gender identity.
Our submission discusses the human rights of LGBTIQA+ communities in relation to:
- discrimination
- vilification and hate speech
- hate crimes
- historical homosexual convictions
- conversion practices
- legal recognition of gender identity
- access to healthcare
- rights of people with intersex characteristics
- LGBTIQA+ incarcerated people
- right to privacy and reputation
- intersecting minorities.
