In recent months there has been significant media coverage proposing to ban transgender women from women’s prisons.
LGBTIQA+ South Australians are alarmed by this proposal. Many trans and gender diverse South Australians have contacted us to express their fear and frustration at the surge in harmful stereotypes that falsely portray trans women as an inherent danger. These claims are not evidence based – they perpetuate prejudice, fuel hostility and legitimise violence towards transgender people.
