Qatar’s anti-LGBTIQA+ policies and FIFA World Cup 2022 discussed in SA Parliament

The 2022 FIFA World Cup was hosted in Qatar, a choice which has attracted significant criticism with concerns over the country’s treatment of queer people, women and migrant workers.

On 28 September 2022, The Hon. Frank Pangallo (SA BEST) moved a Parliamentary motion extending its appreciation and congratulating the emirate of Qatar in staging the FIFA World Cup.

In response, we thank the Hon. Ian Hunter MLC (Labor), the Hon. Robert Simms MLC (Greens) and the Hon. Sarah Andrews MP (Labor) for speaking up against human rights record of Qatar and the experiences of LGBTIQA+ people.
