SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance wrote to Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton seeking an update on the establishment of gender affirming surgical services at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN).
SARAA understands SALHN have surveyed over 245 trans and gender diverse South Australians currently seeking surgical services, and that a proposed design has been recommended and is pending an outcome from decision makers.
The Department for Health and Wellbeing responded noting that the Medical Services Advisory Committee are currently considering an application to subsidise gender affirming surgery under Medicare, and that the outcome of this assessment will inform future funding decisions related to SA Health services.
