LGBTIQA+ inclusion training for crisis and suicide prevention organisations

We’re growing the pool of LGBTIQA+ inclusive and safe suicide prevention services in South Australia

Thanks to generous funding from Wellbeing SA, SARAA and SHINE SA have partnered to provide free LGBTIQA+ inclusivity training to South Australian crisis and suicide prevention services.

LGBTIQA+ South Australians have experienced a long history of homophobia, transphobia, discrimination and abuse which result in significantly poorer mental health outcomes. Recent research shows 75% of LGBTQA+ people have experienced suicidal ideation in their lifetime, more than five times that of the general population.

SARAA and SHINE SA want to expand the pool of inclusive mental health services that LGBTIQA+ South Australians at risk of suicide can rely on to understand the diversity of LGBTIQA+ communities and make it easier for LGBTIQA+ people to talk openly about who they are when accessing care and support.

To do this, we’re offering crisis and suicide prevention organisations the opportunity to participate in SHINE SA’s HOW2 Create LGBTI Inclusive Services program for free!

Usually costing a minimum of $1,980 per organisation, this is a unique opportunity for your organisation to gain practical skills and take steps towards developing services based on best practice LGBTIQA+ inclusion.

For more information about the program and to enrol, head to www.shinesa.org.au/activity/how2.

If you’re interested in participating, get in touch at courses@shinesa.org.au.
